Lobelia Seeds

Lobelia (Lobelia erinus) is a fantastic plant! A classic of summer bedding and container displays, this attractive half-hardy annual is extremely reliable and continually covered in tiny, bright blooms, often right until the first frosts. It’s well-loved for its versatility; with beautifully trailing varieties for mixed patio containers and hanging baskets, as well as neat compact varieties for ground cover in the border as well as formal bedding schemes.

This rewarding flower comes in a range of shades for all colour schemes and their delicate green or bronzed foliage makes it a perfect foil for other garden flowers.

How to Sow and Grow Lobelia
Sow indoors, January to April, thinly, in trays of compost, pressing the seeds into the surface. Do not cover, as lobelia needs light to germinate. Keep soil damp, we suggest a hand sprayer for ideal watering. Keep in a warm environment at a temperature of 15-20°C(60-68°F). Seedlings should appear within 7-14 days.

After germination and when large enough to handle, thin seedlings out in tiny clumps, to 2.5cm(1in) apart. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions and plant out from late May after the last frost.

For compact displays, plant the clumps 10-15cm(4-6in) apart. This will encourage them to merge together. Lobelias thrive in moist, but well-drained soil in a sunny position. Feed with a high-potassium fertiliser and water daily during hot spells.
