Planting & Harvesting

Sow & Grow

Sow indoors, February-April, one seed per small pot, 1.5cm(1/2in) deep. Place the seeds on edge to prevent them rotting off. Keep moist and warm at a temperature of approx. 15-20C(60-68F). Gradually harden off and plant out in June, spacing 90cm(3ft) apart. Grow on black plastic or ground cover to enable more heat to get to the roots or place plants in large pots and grow on in the greenhouse. Once 2 or 3 flowers have been pollinated it is advisable to remove the growing tip to encourage full size fruit.

Hint's & Tips

Use a fine art brush to take pollen from the male flower and introduce to the female flower (female flowers have a swelling behind the flower bud). The fruit will start to swell within 7-10 days.
