Turnip Seeds

Thanks to modern development newer varieties are much sweeter tasting than traditional types and can even be used raw.

Turnips are thought to have been in cultivation in Northern Europe for over 4000 years and were a main staple until the arrival of the potato. Highly versatile, they can be roasted, mashed, pickled, sautéed, stir-fried, steamed or grated raw in salads. Turnips grow best in cool, moisture-retentive soils and to stop them running to seed should be kept well-watered especially before and during hot dry weather.

How to Sow and Grow Turnips
Turnips grow best in cool, moisture-retentive soil. Sow thinly where they are to crop, 1.5cm(1/2in) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 30cm(1ft) between rows. Seedlings appear in 14-21 days. Thin out to 10cm(4in) apart. Water well until plants are established.
