Chilli Pepper Jalapeno Seeds
Capsicum annuum
Getting hotter - The pizza pepper
The classic American pizza pepper. Fill with cream cheese, batter and deep fry to make chilli poppers.
A Best Buy variety as recommended by the Gardening Press and Consumer Groups.
Recommended by Chillilicious (Scotland’s first chilli farm) in BBC Gardeners World Magazine (January 2015 edition): “Mild chillies are easier to grow than hot ones in our British climate. Jalapeno Early seeds are almost guaranteed to succeed, as they fruit even earlier than a normal Jalapeno pepper plant.”

Sow indoors, during March-April, 1.5cm (½”) deep, in trays or pots of moist seed compost at a temperature of approx. 21°C (70°F). After germination, reduce the temperature to 15-18°C (60-65°F); a warm, kitchen windowsill is generally suitable. Transplant to 7.5cm (3”) pots when the seedlings are 5cm (2”) high. Plant out under glass in mid-May into 23cm (9”) pots, or space 45cm (18”) apart or three plants per growing bag. Alternatively, harden off and plant in a warm, sunny but sheltered spot in early June, allowing 45cm (18”) between plants. Harvest: July onwards.
