Beetroot Boltardy Bumper Seed Pack
Beta vulgaris
Ideal beet for early sowing as it does not ‘bolt’. Lift young for ‘baby beets’ or leave to mature. An excellent source of folate and good source of potassium. Multigerm variety.
A Best Buy variety as recommended by the Gardening Press and Consumer Groups.
Recommended by Rachel de Thame in BBC Gardeners World Magazine (January 2015 edition): “A real favourite with gardeners. As the name suggests, it’s bolt-resistant so you can sow it from early in the season until late. Has a sweet flavour.” Also recommended by Charles Dowding, Matt Biggs, Jane Bingham, Rosie Yeoman, Terry Walton and Mike Thurlow

Sow outdoors thinly where they are to crop, 2.5cm (1”) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 30cm (1’) between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Thin seedling to 10cm (4”) apart. Water well until plants are established. Regular sowings made very three weeks should ensure a continuous supply of young beets. Harvested roots can be stored in dry sand for winter use.
Mr F Tip: Do not cut the leaves, but twist them off to prevent the colour ‘bleeding’. Young leaves are also edible and can be cooked like spinach.
Multigerm - Will most likely produce clusters of seedlings. Monogerm - Producing only 1 or 2 seedlings per 'cluster', so little to no thinning is required.
