Sweet Potato Plants
Our range of Sweet Potatoes are really popular, especially over the last few years with more of us choosing them for their fantastic flavour. Interestingly they are not related to potatoes, belonging to the Morning Glory (Ipomoea) family. Packed with Vitamins A, B, C and E and are a good source of calcium and iron, plus they do not contain starch and are low in fat.
Ideal for the patio, greenhouse, polytunnel and containers, they also do well in outside conditions in free-draining, sandy soil in the full sun. The top growth of sweet potatoes doesn’t die back like a normal spud, but crops grown out in the border soil should be ready for harvesting around the end of September – those grown in patio containers in the greenhouse, mid-October. Lift them with a fork taking care not to bruise them and once harvest they will store well through the winter.
Plants are supplied as young plants, rooted into 3cm plugs and will arrive ready for immediate potting on into 9cm pots.
