Details
Tall plants with stunning orange blooms are a rich source of nectar for bees, but without the pollen, making them perfect for cutting. Looks great at the back of borders too! Sunflowers are very easy to grow, they come in all sizes for borders, beds, pots and containers, adding warmth and vibrancy to any outdoor living space – large or small. They look dramatic combined with other easy annuals such as Cosmos, Coreopsis or Cornflower. Sunflowers are long-lasting whether used in the garden or as cut flowers, and attract a wealth of beneficial insects. Their spent heads can also be left to feed birds throughout winter.

These are fabulous sunflowers. I grow many varieties and these are by far the best if you want plenty of cutflowers. They have sturdy stems, beautiful even flowers on long stems which last for ages when cut and don't drop pollen. They are yellow rather than the orange colour in the picture but have a faint orangey brown halo. Love them! :)
Planting & Harvesting
Sow & Grow
Sow outdoors, March to May 1.5cm (half-inch) deep in flowering position. Keep soil moist until well established. Thin out allowing 30cm (12in) between plants. Or, sow indoors, March to May in to small pots of compost, water well and place in a cold frame or greenhouse. Keep moist. Gradually harden off before planting out 30cm (12in) apart in May.
