Ammi visnaga Seeds
A. visnaga (Apiaceae)
Highly prized by floral artists and a great ‘filler’ in borders
Just sow the seed of this versatile species where it is to flower. Ammi visnaga is a delightful plant in summer borders, where it acts as a foil to brighter colours and is also highly regarded by flower arranger both for its umbels of cool green-white flowers and light, ethereal foliage. It looks particularly good in a vase with dahlias. Ammi visnaga, sometimes known unglamorously as Toothpick Weed, as its dried stems were once used as toothpicks, originates in Mediterranean countries. The essential oil extracted from it has herbal uses, including the treatment of bronchial problems.
Ammi is an easy-to-grow hardy annual which flowers the same year as sowing. Its seeds can be sown direct in the garden where it is to flower.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Sow outdoors, March-May, where they are to flower, 0.5cm (¼”) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has been already watered. Water well until plants are established. Thin seedlings as required to allow development. Sowings made in curves rather than straight lines often create a more pleasing effect. Flowers: July-September.
Remove dead heads regularly to prolong the flowering season. Caution: exposure to the sap may cause skin irritation.
