Dahlias are back in fashion, and the great news is they are easily raised from seed and will flower in their first summer after sowing. With their wide range of colours and shapes they are very versatile. Looking fabulous in beds, borders and containers, they also make a beautiful cut flower display.
They have a long flowering period, blooming until the first hard autumn frost, by which time they will have developed tubers. Which can be lifted, stored frost-free and planted for the following spring – making them great value for money!
Use a tomato liquid feed fortnightly and water well in dry weather. Deadhead regularly to prolong the flowering season.
