Enjoy the sight and sound of native bumblebees and put the buzz into your garden or allotment! Planting bee-friendly plants will help attract many different bee species to your garden, but now gardeners can introduce their own mini hive of Britain’s native Buff-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris audax) derived from bees originally collected in Suffolk.

Contains a colony of bumblebees suitable for use in the Beepol Villa (49778 -listed below) and is a similar size to those used by commercial growers for pollination of tomatoes and strawberry crops. Each large Beepol Bumblebee hive has a Queen, workers and eggs and is supplied with about 60-80 workers at the start, but will build up to much higher numbers. The hive is also supplied with a sugar water internal food source.

Please note: Each colony will normally be active for about 3 months, depending on the local environment and weather. The colony lifespans vary according to this and the colony does not overwinter. However they do produce new queens, which will overwinter but not in the Beepol Villa.
