Potato Nicola
F: October - December
Has elongated white tubers with creamy yellow, waxy flesh and a superb sweet, nutty taste. Features good resistance to blight and scab. The Nicola is a popular variety for late planting and highly recommended for salads or as a boiling potato.
Potatoes are one of the most rewarding crops to grow, producing so much from so little. The smell of freshly dug soil as you lift them is unbeatable, as is their 'just harvested' taste. Savour freshly dug new potatoes from late autumn into winter - imagine lifting them first thing on Christmas morning! These late croppers produce slightly smaller yields than main season crops but if anything, this makes you appreciate them all the more!
What are late cropping potatoes?
The varieties listed have been kept in a cool store to stop them chitting but, once removed from our store in mid July, they quickly come into delayed growth. Planted in late July, they will crop from October and with a little straw protection, through to Christmas.
