Jolly Ice Plants from Mr Fothergill's
A series of ice plants (Delosperma dyeri), claimed to be hardy down to -20ºC, has been launched in Mr Fothergill’s Direct Autumn Inspiration Plant Catalogue 2011. The Ice Plant Jolly Series is also succulent, giving it excellent tolerance of drought. The plants have a naturally spreading habit and are most versatile around the garden as they are useful for ground cover, edging borders, cascading through rock gardens or tumbling from patio containers.
There are five distinct colours in the Jolly Series of sparkling, mesembryanthemum-like flowers. Pink Ribbon is cerise pink, Rise and Shine has canary yellow heads, White Pearl is pure white, Perfect Orange also has creamy white centres, while Eye Candy is pink-red and white. Each variety grows just 4-6in (10-15cm) high and remains covered in bright, jewel-like blooms from late spring right through to autumn, making them great value for money.
The Ice Plant Jolly series is offered in 7cm pots. Three plants of any of the five varieties cost £9.95, while a collection comprising one each of Rise and Shine, Pink Ribbon and White Pearl also costs £9.95, with a double collection of three varieties priced at a money-saving £16.90.
Place an order from the catalogue worth more than £25.00 and claim 20 bulbs of Narcissus poeticus var Recurvus (Pheasant Eye) for just £2.95, a saving of £5.00 on list price. Anyone who orders plants worth more than £35.00 is offered one plant each of Iris sibirica Ruffled Velvet, Dance Ballerina Dance and Sparkling Rose for only £4.95, a saving of £5.00 on the usual price.
